DAY SERVICES NEWS
You will be aware that at the moment, UNISON is concentrating efforts in trying to keep Day Services open and running as we believe that it is a service that users enjoy and that Norfolk County Council will be short-sighted to ditch.
Day Services offer much of value, including preventative care and respite for families, among many other benefits so such an outcome would be a disaster. We believe the proposed £3.5m cut to the budget could lead to closures.
UNISON have had some successes of late as other organisations and Councillors have been persuaded (or not – many out there recognise the good work you do!) that it would be an asset that would be hard to replace and are working with us to stop the cuts.
At the recent cabinet, UNISON was credited as saving part of the Quality Assurance (QA) service for similar reasons – and also a working party is to be set up to look at the situation and proposals for Day Services. We need to keep Councillors to this and build on the support we already have.
