UNISON response to the Early Years consultation
The proposals put forward will, we believe damage the quality of early education and
childcare for the children that use them, including those very vulnerable 2 years olds
that are now eligible, subject to criteria, for 15 hours of free childcare.
The proposals will also place huge and further burdens on the staff that work in the
settings.
If implemented the proposals contained in the paper on
‘proposed changes to the role of the local authority in early education and childcare’
will mean that the local authority will have no statutory role in overseeing standards
in early years settings. This is likely to lead to significant job cuts within the
local authorities and UNISON is concerned that standards will fall.

Save Norfolk's 'Outstanding' Adult Education Service
Norfolk County Council are proposing to outsource existing Adult Education Service provision to local colleges.
There has been no public or learner consultations regarding these proposals and
there appears to be no business justification for this decision.
UNISON is supporting an online petition calling for Adult Education to remain within Norfolk County Council.
